Travelling around Vienna

The best way to get around Vienna is to use the city’s public transport network, which comprises five underground lines, 28 tram lines and 90 bus routes.

Please consult the official website of Viennas main public transport provider "WienerLinien" for all your enquiries.

Single tickets are € 2 (€ 2,20 if bought in the means of transport). They can be used for any single trip within Vienna. You may change lines, but you may not interrupt your journey.

Travel cards are available for 24, 48 or 72 hours and are valid throughout Vienna for exactly 24 (€ 6,70), 48 (€ 11,70) or 72 (€ 14,50) hours from the time they are punched. Available in the Vienna Transport Authority’s ticket offices, tobacconists and ticket machines.

The Vienna Card is the ideal “entrance ticket” to the city: a 72-hour (€ 19,90) ticket valid on all means of transport and additional discounts and benefits at museums and sights, theatres and concerts, in shops, cafés, restaurants, etc. It comes with a comprehensive information brochure. Available in hotels and at the tourist information centre on Albertinaplatz (open daily from 9.00 am to 7.00 pm) and the tourist information point at the airport (open daily from 6.00 am to 11.00 pm), at sales and information points of the Vienna Lines (e.g. Stephansplatz, Karlsplatz, Westbahnhof, Landstraße/Wien Mitte).

How to get from the airport to the city

If you arrive by plane via Vienna International Airport VIE, you may use several means of transportation to get to the city centre:

If you choose Taxi 40100 they offer a fixed price of 36 Euro for the ride from the airport to the city. At the airport, please go to the Mazur-Stand next to the Café Altwien and ask for a taxi 40100. You can also do a pre-reservation (same price as above, indicating arrival time, flight number and name) and the driver will wait for you at the arrival gate (left hand side of the door). For this, call +43-1-40100.

C&K Taxi: only with pre-reservation (one week in advance), they offer a fix price of 33 Euro from the airport to the hotel. A reservation can be made by telephone: +43-1-44444 or online via http://www.airportdriver.at/en (if you book online, you save 1€). Please indicate your arrival time, flight number and name. The driver will wait for you at the arrival gate (left hand side of the door).

There are other taxi organisations offering a flat rate without pre-notification (e.g. Taxi 60160) for about the same rate. Find these other organisations here:

Regular taxi fare to the city can be around 50 Euro easily.

Take S 7 direction “Floridsdorf”, get off at station “Wien Mitte/Landstraße”. The ride takes around 25 minutes and the fare is 3,80 Euro. With this ticket you can continue your trip using the metro (see below) without paying additional 1,50 Euro. Note: in this case it is not allowed to interrupt the trip.

CAT – City Airport Train

This is prominently advertised all over the airport. Just follow the green signs. A one way ticket costs 11 Euro, a combined ticket for both directions costs 17 Euro (to be bought online at City Airport Train). If you buy the ticket at the ticket machine, a one way ticket costs 12 Euro, a combined ticket costs 19 Euro. This train uses the same way as the S-Bahn but has fewer stops. The trip to “Wien Mitte” takes approximately 16 minutes. The train leaves the airport approximately every half hour.
